Hey Teens! Want to get published?
Take part in Teen Blackout Poetry!
Do you enjoy writing poetry? Do you like writing in books, but know that you’re not supposed to? Here’s your chance to do both and have your poem published online! Blackout poetry is the process of creating a poem by blacking out, or coloring over, words in a book in order to make a poem. Here’s how to do it without ruining a book:
- Take a photo of a page from any book, but your favorite book would be best.
- Open the photo in a photo editing app, like Paint.
- Start blacking out words and sentences you don’t want, just leaving the words that will make up your poem.
- Save the photo, name the poem, and submit it along with your first name and the title of the book you took the page from to Edison Public Library (cleckenby@lmxac.org) and we will publish it on our Young Adult website.
The next time you visit the library, make sure to visit our poetry section!
